Personalising my online experience has become an increasing focus of many companies. Receiving automated 'Happy Birthday' text messages from my phone provider and birthday messages from my bank is now seen as normal and this morning I was pleasantly surprised to see that even my Google Search wished me Happy Birthday! Yes, this is computer generated, but it is still nice to hear. However, the biggest surprise were the Skype video messages from my family and the hundreds of personal birthday wishes from ex-students and colleagues across the world on Facebook and other social media sites. Birthday cards are still great to receive BUT my world has become so much smaller because of our connectivity. And today, this is a good thing :) Thanks for all the birthday wishes!
